The Active Life of LaGrange features a 6,100 sq. ft. fitness facility that was opened to the public on July 21, 2009. With an uncompromising dedication to the health and wellness of older adults in Troup County (ages 55+), it features a 3,000 sq. ft. open room for fitness classes, dance activities, and health seminars. This large room, which can accommodate up to 200 people, may be subdivided into three smaller rooms.
The fitness facility is fully equipped with a state-of-the-art sound system with wireless microphones, multimedia projectors, and electric screens that descend from the ceiling, along with wireless internet available to the public. An adjoining fitness machine room is equipped with exercise equipment (especially suited for older adults) and two sizable televisions. The facility also offers a living room area near the main entrance that is equipped with sizable televisions. The Wellness Center features a volunteer-ran healthy snack and drink bar available at low costs to participants. With a fitness counseling office, large restrooms, and spacious storage rooms, this building is ready to adapt to the changing needs of older adults for many years to come.

Get moving, have fun, and dance your way to better health! Our dance programs offer a variety of ways to stay active, learn new skills, and connect with others. There’s classes for every style and experience level. Bring your dancing shoes and join the fun!
Dance Fit: Dance fit is a full-body fitness class with a dance element, using easy to follow routines to upbeat music. This is a high-energy class similar to Zumba and is a great cardio workout.
DanceFit is offered on Tuesdays at 9:30AM and Fridays at 10:45AM and is taught by Mirinda Douglas, Karen Head, Pat Truitt, and Sally Traylor and open to adults 55+.
Line Dance: Please join us for free line dancing classes! These are choreographed dance patterns set to music that provide an excellent cardiovascular workout while stimulating memory and coordination. We offer beginner, intermediate, and advanced style classes during various times of the week.
Thursday evening classes are open to adults of all ages, while others are open to adults 55+.

Low Impact Standing Aerobics: In this class, you will enjoy a series of movements designed to help improve balance, cardiovascular health, lung function, and coordination all while enjoying fun music. This is an energizing class that incorporates small yoga balls, hand weights, and resistance bands. It is a great way to start your day!
Low Impact Standing Aerobics is taught on Wednesdays, 9:30AM with Lora Norell and open to adults 55+.
Ballroom Dance: This class is open to adults of all ages. Each session is 5 weeks and the cost is $100 per couple. It is held on Thursday evenings at 7:00PM in the Wellness Center. Please contact Cody Foote for more information at 334-663-2408.
Saturday Night Dance: The Active Life hosts a Saturday Night Dance on the third Saturday of every month from 6:30PM-8:30PM. The cost is $10 per person and includes a light dinner and live music. The dance is open to adults of all ages.
Take charge of your health and improve your strength, balance, and mobility! Each low-impact class includes standing and seated exercises using resistance bands and light hand weights. These free classes are suitable for all older adults 55+.
FlexFit: A balanced blend of gentle dynamic stretching and light resistance training designed to improve flexibility, mobility, and strength.

ChairFit: A seated workout combining resistance training, stretching, and balance exercises for a safe and effective full-body session.

Pickleball is a fun and social sport that offers an excellent cardiovascular workout! It combines many elements of tennis, badminton, and ping-pong. Whether you are a beginner or an experienced player, you will enjoy this fast-paced game!
Pickleball volunteers are available to show you the ropes on the outdoor courts Thursday mornings. Outdoor courts are open anytime during the week. Our indoor court is open on Monday from 2:15PM – 4:00PM in the Wellness Center and open to adults 55+. Paddles and balls are available for use.

Chair Volleyball is a team sport consisting of two teams of six players who are separated by a net. This game is played with a beach ball and can be played at all abilities and activity levels. You will enjoy friendly competition and lots of laughter!
Chair volleyball is offered Wednesday and Friday from 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm in the Wellness Center and is available to adults 55+.
Our Yoga classes are chair- or mat-based and incorporate stretching, strength-building, and balance using yoga blocks and supportive equipment. Yoga I is designed for beginners and those seeking a more adaptable pace and can be done seated in a chair or on a mat. Yoga II is an intermediate-level class conducted entirely on the mat.
Both Yoga classes are taught by certified instructor Teresa Kuhns in the Wellness Center, or outside when the weather permits and available to adults 55+.

Build confidence, improve balance, and reduce your risk of falls! The Active Life periodically offers two evidence-based fall prevention programs: BINGOcize® and A Matter of Balance. These engaging programs combine education and practical activities designed to help older adults stay active, independent, and confident in their everyday lives.
Classes are offered at select times throughout the year for adults 55+.
Slow down, move with purpose, and improve your balance! Qi Gong Tai Chi uses gentle, controlled standing movements to enhance balance, posture, coordination, and overall body awareness. This low-impact class encourages mindful movement while helping participants build stability and confidence.
Suitable for a variety of fitness levels and available to adults 55+ and led by John Poythress.
Qi Gong is offered Mondays at 10:30AM and Thursdays at 1:00PM.
Grab your drumsticks and get ready to move to the beat! Stick to the Beat is a fun, rhythmic workout using stability balls, baskets, and drumsticks to combine movement, music, and exercise. Participants work on coordination, cardiovascular endurance, and brain engagement while drumming along to upbeat music. No drumming experience required- just come ready to move, make some noise, and have fun! Available to adults 55+.
Stick to the Beat is offered Tuesdays at 2:15PM and Wednesdays at 8:30AM and led by Karen Wesley.
